Pranayama for Diabetes

Mandukasana or Frog Pose for Diabetes
Frog pose stimulates the pancreas and can benefit diabetics. This posture is performed after initially doing the Vajrasana pose.

Yogamudrasana

This posture also stimulates the pancreas and puts pressure on the stomach. Yogamudrasana is performed after being seated in Padmasana pose.

Paschimottasana
This pose ensures optimal functioning of the kidneys, liver and pancreas.

Shalabhasana or Locust Pose

This pose can effectively treat indigestion and acidity. It can also tone up the pancreas and liver.

Ardha Matsyendrasana or Spine Twisting Posture
This is a hard pose to perform, and needs regular practice to master it. However, it has many benefits and can help the recovery of the pancreas.

Shavasana (Corpse Pose): It is believed that stress can aggravate diabetes. The calming effect of shavasana on our mind and body can help in keeping a check on blood sugar level.

Vakrasana
If Ardha Matsyendrasana seems to be beyond you, you can try Vakrasana which is more easier. Yet, you can still gain the effects of Ardha Matsyendrasana.

Shankh Prakshalan: Shankh Prakshalan or purification of intestine can make a person feel rejuvenated. Shankh Prakshalan can help in increased secretion of gastric juices, bile etc and in improving the overall functioning of our digestive system.

The beauty of practicing the above named yoga for diabetes is that they can cure diabetes without causing any side effects. You should practice these yoga poses under the guidance of a trained expert as doing incorrectly can do more harm than good.

Eat Natural Foods
Avoid processed foods such as salt, refined sugar, meat products and junk food. A large percentage of our diet consists of processed food. This is one reason why the pancreas starts to give trouble. Instead, eat plenty of natural vegetables and fruits. Boil the vegetables instead of frying them. And, drink more of natural fruit juices, and not processed ones.

  1. This is a great summary, thank you. Some of the pranayamas might be too strong for Diabetes patients, like they many times have other ailments as well. I.e. Bhastrika should be avoided with high blood pressure. The most effective asana for diabetes is probably Ardha Matsyendrasana.
