Yoga Basic Pose: Eagle Pose

Do you know how to perform the eagle pose? This pose is a basic yoga pose.

As you already know, yoga has so many benefits for your body and soul. Apart from the spiritual benefits, you may derive physical benefits by performing yoga poses (asanas).

In our previous article, we had written about how to perform demon pose and downward dog pose. Now, we provide you with information about how to perform eagle pose.

Eagle Pose (also known as Garudasana)
Here are the steps to perform eagle pose:

Begin with mountain pose. The steps to perform mountain pose (tadasana) are as follows:

  • Stand straight with your big toes touching each other
  • Lift up your toes
  • Make your toes fan up and then drop your toes down in order to create a solid base
  • Spread your weight onto four corners of both feet
  • Take on your quadriceps and draw the quadriceps upward. Through this step, your knee caps will rise
  • Revolve both of your thighs inward. Through this step, a widening of the sit bones will be created
  • Push your tailbone in between the sit bones
  • Tone your stomach, draw the stomach in slightly
  • Widen your collar bone and make your shoulders parallel to your pelvis
  • Make your chin level with the floor

Once you have done with the mountain pose, do the following steps:

  • Entwine your left leg over your right leg
  • Extend your left arm out
  • Cross your right arm over it
  • Bend your elbows and entwine both elbows together and bring your hands together
  • Release yourself and pretend to fly out as an eagle
  • Reverse sides

Benefits of Eagle Pose:

  • Strengthens your ankles
  • Stretches your shoulders
  • Removes cramps in your calves

  • A flying bird
