Yoga Basic Poses: Child Pose and Cobra Pose

Choosing the most suitable yoga pose according to your ability is important. There are some yoga basic poses which are meant only for yoga expertise.

If you are a beginner, you should choose yoga basic poses which are relatively easy to perform. This article explains you child’s pose and cobra pose.

Yoga Basic Poses – Child’s Pose and Cobra Pose

Child’s Pose (also known as Balasana)

Here are the steps to perform child’s pose:

  • Spread a blanket or yoga mat on the floor
  • Kneel yourself on the mat/blanket
  • Put your hands along with your knees, shoulder and your hip width apart
  • Place the top of the knees flat on the mat/blanket
  • Touch your toes
  • Sit on your heels
  • Extend the arms far forward without rising off the heels
  • Place your head down
  • Put your forehead on the mat/blanket
  • Stretch the arms along with the fingers out
  • Keep your head, neck and back relax

Benefits of Child’s Pose:

  • Good for your lower back
  • Good resting pose

What Chair Pose Looks Like:

  • Someone while praying
  • Somebody when begging
  • Someone while sleeping

Cobra Pose (also known as Bhujangasana)
The steps to perform cobra pose are as follows:

  • Spread a blanket or a yoga mat on the floor
  • Begin with lying flat on your stomach
  • Place your hands back by the base of your chest bone
  • Uncurl your toes
  • Press your toes into the mat/blanket
  • Bring your energy to your legs
  • Take a deep breath and keep your shoulders on the back
  • Hiss like you are a snake

Benefits of Cobra Pose:

  • Strengthening your back
  • Strengthening your spine
  • Expands your chest

What Cobra Pose Looks Like:

  • A walrus
  • A snake
