Meditation is becoming more and more popular these days. An increasing number of people are trying meditation and reaping the benefits – a healthier mind and a sense of well-being. Meditation becomes easier and comfortable when you use meditation pillows as they provide support.

When we want to meditate for a longer period of time, we sometimes cannot. A major reason for this is that we are not used to sitting on the floor and without back support for prolonged periods of time. This is where the pillows are highly useful and recommended.

Meditation pillows are pillows specially designed for those who meditate sitting on the floor for long periods of time. They come in various shapes and sizes, although the most popular ones are the circular meditation cushions.

Types of meditation pillows and cushions
There are different types of meditation pillows that you can choose from. These pillows are better than normal pillows in that they are designed specifically for this purpose. The choice would depend on your needs as well as the time duration of your meditation sessions and the surface chosen for meditation sessions.

If the surface on which the meditation sessions take place is grass, then that itself is a soft surface. There will not be too much pressure on the body on such a surface. This will require only a light weight and soft pillow. Such pillows usually come with a nylon filling and are easily washable in the washing machine. Using it on grass might make it dirty often so that is an advantage.

If the meditation sessions happen on a harder surface like wood or concrete, such a soft light pillow would not suffice. Such surfaces would require a two layered pillow. These are pillows that have a solid base of foam. They are topped with a softer material like a soft synthetic.

There are also those that come with a back support for those who tend to get a backache when sitting for long without any back support.

Benefits
The major benefit is that they make your sessions more comfortable so that you can concentrate on meditating rather than on your discomfort. You will not have a sore rear when you get up after a long meditation session as these pillows provide enough cushioning. It also helps you in maintaining an erect posture which is essential for proper breathing during meditation.
