What is Utkatasana?

Utkatasana is also known as the chair pose. This is so because this asana gives the impression that someone is sitting on an imaginary chair. In reality, Utkatasana teaches you how to balance your pelvic region with the spine so that there is an uninterrupted flow of energy along the spine.

In Sanskrit, utkatasana’ means ˜powerful pose’. From yogic point of view, pelvis is considered the seat of power’ as it contains the vital organs of our body that are associated with digestion, elimination and procreation. It is also considered that pelvis can also control the flow of life’s vital energy along the spine. It is considered that by gaining control over your pelvis, you can coordinate the life energy around and within you.
