Yoga is a great way of nourishing the mind, body and soul. Its scope is expanded to several age groups, including the elderly people.
It is very beneficial for those who have crossed there 50’s. Several yoga poses like the Cat pose, double leg raises, Corpse pose, locust pose etc bring about lot of benefits. Here are some of them.
1)Â Sleep: Often the elderly suffer with lack of sleep or no sleep at all. This in turn leads to weakness and lethargic behavior. Practicing Yoga before going to bed helps the body relax and drift into a good nights sleep. Research states that elderly people tend to enjoy good quantity and quality of sleep when they practice Yoga, before going to bed.

3) Hypertension: The aged mostly face the problem of hypertension and high blood pressure. Several tensions and worries cause the aged to become anxious and loose focus. This further leads to a risk of heart attacks. Yoga helps them regain back their sense of focus by helping them focus on their inner strengths and qualities.
4)Â Breathing Problems: Pollution, genetic factors and smoking lead to lot of breathing problems like asthma and sinusitis. Yoga-breathing techniques help one become aware of their breathing, and help them cope with any kind of asthma attacks.
5)Â Excess Weight: With the increase in age, there is also an increase in waistline. Practicing Yoga regularly helps one loose weight and avoids many problems like obesity and being over- weight.
