The name VAJRASANA is based on the term “Vajra” a powerful weapon used by Lord Indra.
This weapon is said to destroy all evil. Similarly this exercise of Yoga is a powerful way of dealing with unhealthy habits and postures. It is a form of meditation which brings in calm and peace in an individual. It is greatly said to improve concentration.
This exercise requires us to kneel down in such a way that is very comfortable. This form of posture enables blood circulation to the lower parts of the body.It also strengthens the toe and calf muscles.
Methodology to Practice Vajrasana.
1) Sit down on the ground with your legs in front of you. Fold your left leg and place it under your knee. The toe should be facing downwards, and your heel upwards.
2) Now fold your right leg and place it under your knee. Join both the legs. You will be in a kneeling down position.
3) Now seat yourself down between the shallow of the joint heels.
4) Place your palms on your knees. Face them upwards.
Points to Keep in Mind.
- Make sure you keep your back straight while sitting in this pose.
- Do not sit on your heels.
- Make sure that your heels remain outside and your toes inside.
- Breathe in and out in a regular pattern. Concentrate on your breathing when doing this exercise.
Precautions
- People suffering from piles are advised not to practice this pose.
- People with stiff joints should be careful while practicing this pose. It is best to do it under expert guidance.
Keep these points in mind before setting out to practice Vajrasana.
