“Yoga is the only exercise in the world you can do at any age. There is always some posture that will improve your health, mind and soul.”

The quote is by the designer of Bikram Yoga himself!

Bikram Choudhary’s belief and knowledge in Yoga lead him to design a new form of yoga called ‘Bikram Yoga’. This yoga is also known as Hot Yoga because the technique has to be practiced in a room heated to 105°F (40.5°C) with a humidity of 40%. The procedure includes a series of 26 postures and 2 breathing exercises performed in 90 minutes.

This 90 minute exercising schedule can be done by a person of any age and ability. The series, in which the 26 postures and 2 breathing exercises have been designed, is in such a way that each posture ‘stretches and strengthens specific muscles, ligaments and joints needed for the next posture’.

Bikram Yoga method stimulates the organs, glands and nerves, and ensures that oxygenated blood reaches every part of your body. The 90 minute routine in this yoga prevents illness, injury and limits the effects of aging through balancing energy and strengthening every system in your body. In addition, the series of postures combines skills of concentration, patience, determination and self-control, leading to increased mental clarity and reduced stress.

Researchers have found that practicing Bikram Yoga helps in:

Bikram Yoga gives relief from high blood pressure, sciatica, asthma, arthritis, neck and back pain, diabetes, herniated disc, scoliosis, insomnia, stress, migraines, depression, anxiety and many more health concerns.
